1808 Then & Now

February 26, 2019

In celebration of Hutton Hotel’s 10th Anniversary, we went back to the beginning of it all. Take a look back on the timeline that took the 1808 building from Nashville’s “second tallest office building” to the lifestyle hotel the city has come to love.

1961New West End Building

Donald F. Steinbaugh was the architect behind the 1808 West End Building that opened in 1961. With 15 floors, the building was the fourth largest and second tallest office structure in the city. It was the first office building located slightly outside of the crazy downtown traffic, on West End Avenue.

2009 Hutton Hotel Opens

In 2009, Hutton Hotel opened it’s doors as Nashville’s premier independent hotel. The four-star hotel brought 13,000 sq ft of meeting space, a four-star steak house called 1808 Grille, and a location ideal for ease of travel and access to all of Nashville’s greatest attractions. The hotel quickly became a home away from home for luxury seasoned travelers.

2016 Renovation Begins

Late 2016, Hutton Hotel began a multi-phase renovation of the property. With the remodeling of guestrooms and common spaces as well as a re-concepting of the restaurant and bar, the original building got a whole new look. A previous floor of the parking garage and an old retail shop in the North Building were also re-vamped into a full music venue and two recording studios, inspired by the many artists and musicians that stay at the hotel.

2017 Hutton Hotel Re-Opens

In Feburary 2017, Hutton Hotel opened Analog, a 5,000 square-foot cocktail bar, entertainment venue and writer’s creative spaces for musician guests in partnership with Red Light Management. Additionally, 1808 Grille was re-concepted to WestEnd Kitchen & Bar, offering Contemporary American cuisine. Additionally, the brand new set of Writers Studios added to the property offer creative spaces for musicians and artists. Guest rooms and common spaces were re-designed to be more communal and speak to the artistic, seasoned traveler.
