Cold Weather Fun in Nashville
Cold Weather Fun in Nashville
Ask anyone who has lived in Nashville awhile about the weather and they’ll usually, emphatically, state one objective truth: it’s hot. And they’re right, for most of the year the temperature hovers somewhere between steamy and sweltering. Yet, for a few months after the holidays and before baseball season it does become cold and it’s not uncommon to get a couple of inches of snow. So what do our heat-loving neighbors do when the mercury drops? We have a few highlights to share with you.
The Belcourt Theatre
Our beloved indie cinema, The Belcourt Theatre, is an ideal blustery day oasis. Spend an afternoon taking in a matinee accompanied with piping hot popcorn and treats from local outposts like Olive & Sinclair chocolate and the newly welcomed Nashville Soft Pretzel Company(re: they’re good.)
The Frist Center for the Visual Arts
Just a rock’s throw from our front door is the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville’s art museum. Wander the expansive (and warm) building and take in one of the rotating featured exhibits. Don’t forget to return in the spring when they feature a truly special outdoor concert series in their courtyard but for now you can watch the snow flurries fall from inside.
The Avenue of the Arts
While the Frist is the designated visual art museum, you could also bundle up and duck in and out of various galleries on 5th Avenue, or the Avenue of the Arts, which holds a monthly art crawl the first Saturday of each month. Of course you’ll briefly venture outside as you move from one of gallery to the next, but the complimentary vino flows and while most can be viewed on foot, transportation is also provided. Take a look at the map for information on which galleries are showcased and inquire with our concierge team for dates and further information.
The Ryman Auditorium
What better way to spend a chilly Nashville evening than within the warm confines of the “Mother Church of Country Music,” The Ryman Auditorium. Of course, this Music City monument has branched out from its legendary country music foundation and offers a myriad of performers ranging from pared-back acoustic troubadours to turned-up-to-eleven juggernauts
If you’re traveling with the entire family which includes little ones, there are plenty of options to keep the whole gang warm and entertained. The Adventure Science Center is a youth-oriented interactive science museum which takes a hands-on educational approach towards such themes as biology, physics, visual perception, listening, mind, air and space, energy and earth science. Trust us, mom and dad will certainly echo the “that was cool” sentiment the kids will walk away with.
Bundling Up Further If perhaps you’ve found that you didn’t bring enough clothing to brave the chilly (and often times temperamental) Nashville weather, you can always stop into any one of our several stores and boutiques to further outfit yourself with some new threads. Elizabeth Suzann creates beautiful, tonal womenswear evoking her mantra of “functionality, versatility, and dimension” which are ideal for layering and working with the ever-fluctuating Nashville temperature. Nisolo has you covered if you’re seeking new footwear that also creates a positive manufacturing social impact. Sturdy and ethically sourced, CEO Patrick Woodyard offers shoes ranging from rugged Vibram-soled boots to clogs for both men and women.
Not Going Outside?
Of course, you absolutely reserve the right to spend a brutally cold day remaining comfortably indoors, and we absolutely have you covered. Grab a cortado from West End Coffee Bar or a cocktail from the bar and camp out in Analog to hear whoever may be spinning some vinyl that evening.Walk from your room (in your robe of course) to the spa for one of our many treatment options, or cozy-up by the fireplace in our penthouse, have our Hutton Personal Assistant bring you your own record player (we have a killer wax collection) and a mimosa and imbibe and vibe. After all, Nashville knows that dancing will always be a sure-fire way to shake off the cold.
